Welcome to Haaken's Alaskan Klee Kai! Our Kennel name Haaken is Norse which means "chosen one." We have been given this great opportunity to breed the Alaskan Klee Kai in Alaska, just miles from where the breed was first developed by Linda Spurlin in the mid 70's.
We are a small breeder located in Palmer, Alaska. Currently our home is shared with 4 Alaskan Klee Kai,1 Chihuahua, and 2 boys. Our puppies will definitely get a head start with socialization before leaving our home!
Haaken's Alaskan Klee Kai is also on Facebook! Like our site for more photo and puppy updates!
My name is Lena Kleven. I moved up to Alaska in 1993 from Eastern Washington with my high school sweetheart Josh. I fell in love with the nordic breeds, especially the Siberian husky shortly after our move. I purchased my Siberian husky "Sequoya" in 1994; a few months later we added "Avek" an Alaskan husky. We enjoyed our huskies through the years, we mushed them recreationally, camped around the state of Alaska with them, and took evening walks, just enjoying our beautiful outdoor playground. Both Seqouya and Avek lived long happy lives in our home. When Sequoya passed away in 2008, I remembered reading a story about miniature huskies in the local news paper and recalled the lady who developed the breed was from Alaska. I started searching for them online and found the Alaskan Klee Kai. It was a perfect match for me, a husky in miniature form! I was pretty disheartened to learn that even though they were developed in Alaska, there were currently no breeders in Alaska and I would have to fly a Klee Kai in from the lower 48.
Loki basking in the Alaskan sun!
My first Klee Kai "Loki" was born June 11, 2008 and arrived August 15,2008 from Kika's Kennel in California. I was so excited to drive to the airport to pick him up - he was just a tiny beautiful ball of fur! I fell in love with him immediately, he has been right by my side ever since. Loki is a neutered, black and white miniature, with bi eyes (one brown and one blue.) He weighs 14lbs. and is 14 inches. Loki is a very sweet energetic boy who is very attached to his mama. Most people in Alaska just think he is a husky puppy until we tell them how old he is! He is also known as "Uncle Loki" because he does such a wonderful job with all the puppies in our pack!
Thank you Jacki Pauley for sharing your handsome boy! Bodi arrived at Haaken's in February 2012 from Iowa. Bodi is mini in size 14 inches and 15bs. He is a Grey/White with one blue parti eye and one brown. Bodi has the best fun/easy going personality. He loves to follow you around everywhere. My husband has nicknamed him "Tank!" Bodi turned 3 on December 9, 2014. Bodi completed all his health tests- Patella, Cardiac, Eyes and Thyroid. He is Factor VII cleared by descent. Bodi sired his first beautiful litter of 4 females with Ziva June 4, 2013.
My first breeding Klee Kai was born January 28, 2009 and arrived August 7, 2011 from Akk's of Kabo. Ziva is a black and white small miniature Klee Kai, she has one blue eye and one parti eye she is 13 1/2 inches and weighs 12 lbs. Tammy, her daughter Samantha and family made a big move from Illinois to South Dakota, they needed to downsize their kennel and I was given this wonderful opportunity to add Ziva to our family. Ziva had her second litter right here at Haaken's on August 22nd with the same sire as her first litter GR CHPR.
